iWeb impressions:
Apple’s iWeb is an easy tool to help novices create a good looking website. It’s made to work with a .Mac account, which costs $79/yr. Is it worth it? It is if you have no web design experience. Since I already have a host for my personal site, I published these pages to my JoelSolomon.com account. Apple almost forces users to buy a .Mac account because they make it so much easier to publish a site. If you don’t have .Mac, then you’re left on your own to figure out how to publish your site.
You’re pretty much stuck with 5 page templates for each design:
Welcome
About Me
Photos
Blog
Movies
Podcasts
While this might be nice for people who simply want to share their media files, it’s impossible to create a page from scratch.
Pros: Easy to create impressive pages with no design experience, works seemlessly with other iLife apps, drag and drop simplicity
Cons: Limited choices of page designs and templates, meant to work with .Mac accounts, pages take longer to load due to unnecessary code that is written
