TASK:
You will work in teams of FOUR on this project. Each person on your team is responsible for researching one of the areas below and writing a poem about it. Be sure you have learned something interesting about your state, so that your knowledge can be turned into a poem.

Mission #1:
CHOOSE A STATE. All team members will find information about the same state. Your job as researchers will be to find out about your state. You will be provided with Internet links to do your research. During your research look for information on the following topics:

  • State Symbols
  • The geography of your state (landforms, climate, location, etc.)
  • Places of interest that people would like to visit
  • People of interest (find out about some of your state’s more famous residents)

Take notes during the research phase of this project. Working with your partners, divide your responsibilities so that each of you has learned something about one of the topics listed above.

Mission #2:
Once you have researched facts about your state, your next mission will be to write a poem about the topics you’ve studied. Your poems MUST include information from your research! In a Poetic State Kids

  • Each member of your group should write a different type of poem. After you've each written a poem, you're ready to work on your presentation.
  • Each person in your group will be responsible for creating at least ONE poem. All four poems must use a different style of poetry, which you will learn about during the "RESOURCES" section of this webquest.
  • Your final product can be either a Power Point Presentation OR a picture book. In either case, each poem your team creates must include an illustration (done either on the computer or on paper) and a description of the type of poem you wrote.
  • Your presentation should also include an "About the Authors" page that tells a little about each member of your group.
  • You will then present your poems to the class.
